Samoan independence
                         The Struggle
In Samoa the people had realised that their country didn’t belong to them anymore because
countries had been competing to see who can take control over another country, but nobody
from Samoa had been invited they didn’t even know that there was a meeting going on,
Later on the Berlin deal decided to divide Samoa and split them up, so Germany took the
West Side of Samoa which became a German Colony and the United States took over the
East Side of Samoa and now it is called ‘American Samoa’.

                                     The Chiefs
One of the leaders of Samoa had defeated Germany once but Mata’afa (The chief) decided
to put all the weapons down and hoped that the Europeans would allow the people of Samoa
to govern themselves, which was happening in Tonga. The colonial government didn’t want
to leave people alone but instead they made new laws and Samoa only had a little amount
of control, so the people of Samoa wanted their homeland back.

                            Influenza Epidemic

In 1918, 8500 people from Samoa had died because of this flu spreading around the globe
and killing people, this flu is similar to the Coronavirus (or COVID - 19). Millions of
people had died from this flu and doctors tried to help them and Quarantine is avoiding
deaths, but in New Zealand quarantine was not managed. In the western Samoa there were
people who suffered one of the highest deaths in the whole entire world, Samoa felt that the
New Zealand government let the Influenza in and only helped out a little bit.
