     The Possum Problem
                            Introducing Possums
Possums are pests that like to live in forests they are also introduced pests,
they were introduced in 1837 and the people who introduced them to
New Zealand was the British Settlers, they thought it would be a good idea to
bring possums to New Zealand because back in Australia possums were
different there.

How Do They Damage The Forest?
Possums damage the forest by eating the new growth leaves on the trees called
Rata and Kamahi. They also eat the native creatures, Native birds eggs and
flowers and fruit. Possums started to become a problem in the 1920s
.

                   Eating our new growth leaves
First, possums eat our new growth leaves on the Rata and Kamahi tree. If they
eat the leaves then the trees will die and there will be no oxygen, if there is no
oxygen then there are no people in the world.

                        Eating fruits and flowers
Secondly, possums eat our fruits and flowers which means there will be not
enough food for the native creatures and if they eat the middle part of the
flower which contains the seeds, they will eat the seeds all and the seeds make
fruits so that means fruits will become extinct.

                          Eating our native creatures
Thirdly, possums eat the native creatures, if they eat our native creatures, then
they will become extinct, and if they become extinct there will be no eggs, and
the birds cannot pollinate.

                                    Conclusion
In New Zealand possums population is spreading all over New Zealand and  I
want to get rid of the possums or any other pests in New Zealand so that our
world can survive and not die. As you can see below the map has shown how
fast they have spread across the country. Which means our environment
would be ruined.

Possums the problem.

A possum is a pest that was shipped from Australia to New Zealand
by the early British settlers in 1837. They thought it was a great idea
to ship possums from Australia to New Zealand because they could
get money from making a fur industry to sell their fur for more money.
In my writing, I will be explaining how possums are changing our forest.
Firstly they devour the new growth leaves of our native trees, secondly,
they devour the fruits and flowers, thirdly they eat our native creatures,
and lastly, they devour our native creatures eggs.

First possums are changing our beautiful green forest by eating the
new growth leaves which causes our trees to die including our native
New Zealand trees such as pohutukawa, kauri, rata and also kowhai
and if there are no trees that mean we have no oxygen.

Secondly, they devour our fruit and flowers which means there will be
less food for our native creatures and insects which they need to
survive on and maybe they might become extinct.

Thirdly they eat our native creatures and insects which means they
cannot pollinate or reduce food supply and they could become extinct.

And lastly, they also eat our native creatures eggs which might cause
them to become extinct and have no more native New Zealand animals, creatures or insects. Because they are growing at a faster rate every year. The more they eat would cause these native birds to extinct.

Possums are destroying our environment by killing our native trees
and creatures, animals and also insects. We need to find a way to help
get rid of this pest from changing our environment. As you can see the
diagram below everything work together but now possums come in and
are disrupting our ecosystem.

Problem solving by Janett

I am learning to solve fraction problems by drawing the picture so I can clearly show my thoughts. This is a way that I can show others how I solve it.
I really need to learn my time tables which will help me solve fraction problems easily and much quicker.

                              My Day At Town
First on Sunday 1st of March Me, my brother Havea, my Cousin Nio, my sister
Rachel and my uncle Una, we were all bored at our house. So, my uncle, Una
decided to take us all to town to play basketball.

Next, we all started to get ready and wait for Una to finish cleaning his room up,
so a few hours later he was finished so he said “Go grab my keys and wait in the
car.'' Then I grabbed the keys as fast as I could and ran to the car to unlock it.
When I unlocked it I sat down, when I was looking at the window Havea tried to
scare me by tapping on the window but I already saw him, anyways they all came
and sat down, my uncle started driving to town and we got there, once we got
there we all got out of the car and except for my uncle, he had to find parking.

He told us to meet him at the park so we did and my siblings/cousin ran to the
basketball court and started playing but I was playing on the playground on the
swings, my uncle came along and started to record them playing basketball he
also recorded me too, but then Havea went up the stairs to chuck the ball down
to Nio, Raechal was with me. Raechal wanted to go up the stairs so I went up the
stairs too but the ground was see-through so you can see what’s underneath you.
It was pretty scary at first but now I just realized that it wasn’t that bad

My sister and I came down the stairs and went to the courts and watched the
boys play basketball, I thought it was boring so I went to my uncle and I went
inside the water to wash my feet, my uncle took some photos of me and posted
it on Instagram. I came out and put my scuffs back on to let my feet dry up,
my uncle said to take a walk around, and we found a bridge where it goes up it
looked really cool, when it came down we went on it to get to the other side and
we saw a small library with chairs so we all sat down to relax a bit and leave but
we were playing handball, the boy's team won but we wanted a rematch.

We went back to the courts and played basketball, I didn’t want to play because
I’m not a fan of basketball, but I was the one taking the photos of them, they
also made a bet on whoever loses has to do the dishes. While they were
playing a teenager wanted to play so we let him play and surprisingly the
boys won again.

Finally, we went home and we all fell asleep.

Our PB4L lesson, we were learning how to walk in the corridors and decided with our buddy how to share our learning by creating this poster and we hope that you would enjoy it. We used Te Reo, Samoan and Tongan languages.
