Samoa independence
Samoa is a very beautiful big island. In 2012, the people of Samoa celebrated their country’s fiftieth year of tuto’atasi (independence). Independence day in Samoa is when Samoa has a public holiday. Samoa was broken into two pieces.

The largest part ( in the West ) was taken by Germany and it was a German colony, the US took over the east side of Samoa. It was strange to Samoa villages and chiefs because they noticed that their wonderful own country didn’t belong to them anymore. Mata’afa Iosefa who is the strongest chief in Samoa watched their enemies arrive (German). He defeated the German troop before in Samoa but this time he chose to drop his weapons. War between Samoa and tagata papalagi (Europeans) caused danger for the islanders, like other samoan leaders, Mata’afa hoped that the Europeans might allow them to govern themselves, just like what was happening in Tonga.
